DIBELLA OPENS HIS HEART AND CHECKBOOK
"FOR ALL TIME GREAT"
by Johnny Bos
New York City based Boxing Promoter Lou DiBella who had a starring role in
Rocky 6 and is now producing a story on the murder of former Heavyweight
contender Oscar'Ringo; Bonavena scored a big hit last week when his
heavyweight Monte Barrett destroyed Tye Fields in only 57 seconds. Now
very quietly MR DiBella has reached into his pocket and come up with the
funds needed to correct a wrong that had been done 40 years ago at St
Raymonds Cemetery in the Bronx in NYC. For years I had been pushing to
get William (KID NORFORK) Ward who at one time might have been the best
lb 4 lb fighter in the world into the International Boxing Hall of Fame where he
belonged! Finally succeeded in 2007, I then went crazy looking to see if he
had any living relatives and with a helpful hint from Historian Kevin Smith I
found his daughter Minerva living in the Harlem section of NYC. After visiting
with his daughter Boxing Agent Don Majeski bought her a plane ticket and
payed the hotel bill of Minerva for Hall of Fame weekend and the induction.
Then I got hit with a bos-shell Ed Cahill who is doing a documentary of the life
story of Harry Greb visited Norfork's grave and found that the headstone only
listed his wife. Ed got hold of me I explained the situation to Lou DiBELLA
who at once offered to correct the situation. This is not a cheap process to
have a gravestone dug out of the ground and redone with a picture and
details of who this great man was in his day. Norfork beat the likes of Harry
Greb twice, Joe Jeannette, Battling Siki, Billy Miske, Gunboat Smith, John
Lester Johnson, Jeff Clarke and Battling Jim Johnson. The Kid knocked out
Tiger Flowers twice, George Godfrey, and The great Jack Blackburn. In fact
Heavyweight Champion Jack Dempsey pulled out on him on three diffrent
occasions. William Ward passed away in NYC 4/15/69 and I am one of the few
to say I met the man, his biggest problem was being black and coming along
at the same time the Jack Johnson era was coming to an end and mixed
matches were banned almost everywhere. We would like to thank Lou
DiBELLA for reaching into his heart and coming up with the funds to get this
act of kindness and good will done. There will be CEREMONY come Sept in
St Raymonds cemetery and local press, politicians and many boxing
historians are expected to be on hand.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH MR DIBELLA

ARE BOXING COMMISSION MEDICALS
DESTROYING OUR BOXER'S HEALTH
It appears The medicals giving by many USA Boxing Commissions could
very well be doing more harm than good. I am not a Doctor but know how to
read and what I am seeing looks very dangerous to any Boxers health. Any
Boxer who has taken an MRI or MRA and has a tattoo or any metal in there
body (which I assume to include fusions, fillings or plates ) Have a serious
chance of developing life ending kidney problems I am enclosing a few
articles. You will find many more if you go to Google type in MRI or MRA hit
search then go to the bottom of the page hit search within results and type in
problems and see what comes up. Also many states are still giving catscans
to Boxers . Well now it has been made public that at least 1 in every 1000
CATSCAN PATENTS ARE DEVELOPING BRAIN CANCER and the more
Catscans you take the more at risk you are. For instance if a Fighter fights
pro for say 15 years and has stopped 5 times in that period he would have to
take at least 20 catscans. I think with those kind of odds the chances of
getting BRAIN CANCER are very good. This is a very serious issue that
needs to be dealt with at once and all fighters, managers, promoters, trainers
and anybody else associated with the sport should get hold of there local
commissions as well as local politicins to check into this matter. THIS IS NO
BULLSHIT AND TIME IS OF THE ESSENSE!
Gadolinium based MRI contrast agents have been linked to the development
of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) in individuals with kidney
insufficiencies. If the manufacturers of these contrast agents had properly
conducted studies of their product or analyzed reports and other clinical
data, they could have warned earlier about the potential MRI problems.
Earlier warnings may have prevented the disabling and painful condition
experienced by hundreds, or potentially thousands, of individuals.
>>INFORMATION: MRI Contrast Problems
Gadolinium is highly toxic metal which is used in the MRI contrast dyes
because it is drawn to magnetic fields. When injected before an MRI or MRA,
the contrast allows the physician to differentiate blood vessels from nearby
tissue when interpreting the exam.
The contrast agent is administered as a chelate, which is supposed to
protect the body from the toxic free gadolinium. However, individuals with
kidney insufficiencies may not eliminate the contrast from their body, and
defects in the design of some the contrast agents could allow the gadolinium
to separate from its chelate, causing NSF.
Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF), previously known as nephrogenic
fibrosing dermopathy (NFD), is a progressive disorder which is associated
with the development of scarring of the skin and connective tissue
throughout the body. It can result in a hardening and thickening of the skin,
which could be described as leathery, rigid or course. The hard and thick
skin can severely restrict movement of the joints, and is painful and
extremely disabling. The fibrosis can also effect other internal organs, and in
some cases it can lead to death.
>>INFORMATION: NSF Symptoms
WARNINGS ABOUT MRI PROBLEMS
The first written accounts of individuals with kidney problems experiencing a
hardening and thickening of their skin following an MRI were published in
medical literature in 2000. However, reports indicate that the condition was
observed by some doctors as early as 1997.
It was not until 2006 that the first warnings were issued about problems with
the MRI contrast agents. In 2006, the FDA warned that physicians should
carefully assess the need for gadolinium MRI dye in patients with moderate
to end state renal disease due to the risk of NSF. In May 2007, a prominent
black box warning was added to the contrast agents, indicating that the
serious MRI problems could result for those with kidney insufficiencies.
Since the information about potential problems was released, independent
researchers and physicians have been able to evaluate the risk and come up
with steps to reduce the chances of NSF developing. In July 2007, the
American College of Radiology, added information to their guidelines on MRI
safety about the problems and recommended steps that could be taken to
reduce the risk of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis if an enhanced MRI is
needed for someone with kidney problems.
The companies which make the MRI contrast agents should have designed
their products to ensure that the toxic gadolinium is not released into the
patient’s body. In addition, they should have conducted research on the
impact their product would have on those with kidney insufficiencies and
warn about the potential problems.
The lawyers at Saiontz, Kirk & Miles, P.A. are reviewing MRI law suits
throughout the United States for individuals who have experienced
symptoms of NSF after an MRI or MRA with contrast. Problems could
include dark patches, burning, itching, swelling, hardening or tightening of
the skin, which usually develops on the arms, hands, legs or feet.
If warnings about the MRI problems had been provided earlier, those who
are now suffering from nephrogenic systemic fibrosis may have been able to
avoid the devastating condition. If you, a friend or family member are
concerned that problems following an MRI or MRA may be related to the
gadolinium based contrast agent, determine if you may be eligible for a claim
by requesting a free consultation.
Nashville, TN: Gotta love those man-made diseases. In an era where modern
medicine is designed to eradicate disease, modern medicine is not above
creating disease, either. Such is the case with MRI and kidney failure and,
specifically, Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF), a debilitating disease
only recently recognized and linked directly to gadolinium contrast dyes
used in MRI procedures done on patients with pre-existing kidney problems.
The disorder is characterized by high blood pressure, burning, itching,
swelling and hardening of the skin. The latter has been likened to becoming
entombed in one's own skin, and has been described by those made who
suffer from horrific NSF as 'hell on earth.'
That has certainly been the case for Jeanie Deason, a kidney patient in
Tennessee who underwent an MRI with a gadolinium-based contrasting
agent and is now comfined to bed with painful hardening of her skin and
joints. The poor woman's NSF has progressed to the point where her legs
and right arm have frozen into a bent position, and she now requires 24-hour
care. The only time Deason can make it up from her mattress is when her
parents help her into the bathroom.
Deason even had to miss her daughter's graduation.
MRI, or Magnetic Imaging Resonance, has been a boon for the early
detection of disease-causing tumors and has been hailed as one of the
greatest advancements in modern medicine. Contrasting agents are
routinely used in an effort to provide a clearer picture for the MRI
technologist, and gadolinium-based agents are commonly used. While
gadolinium is not found naturally in the human body and is by nature toxic,
the kidneys are in most cases efficient in expelling the toxin from the human
body in short order, preventing any kind of gadolinium toxicity.
However, that assumes properly functioning kidneys. Patients with weak or
malfunctioning kidneys wind up with gadolinium in their bodies for far
longer, assuming the failing kidneys can get rid of it, at all.
The latter produces MRI health risks and forms the basis for NSF, and the
connection between NSF and the use of gadolinium-based contrasting
agents during MRI procedures appears to be irrefutable. Researchers at Yale
University have reported that the vast majority of patients they have studied
with NSF symptoms—95 percent—had undergone an MRI with gadolinium
two, to three months before their symptoms appeared. Further, researchers
at Massachusetts General Hospital report that kidney patients having
undergone MRI with gadolinium were 10 times more likely to develop NSF
than patients who had not been exposed to gadolinium.
Deason's condition has worsened, but there is renewed hope for her
however. An experimental procedure dubbed extracorporeal photopheresis
(EP) has the potential for reversing Deason's plight. EP involves removing
blood from a patient's body, exposing it to ultraviolet light, then re-infusing
the exposed blood into the patient. The exposure to UV is thought to bolster
the body's natural immune system for fighting disease, and researchers
have been buoyed by results that have been described as dramatic.
However, the cost of the treatment is prohibitive, at $8000 per. Deason's
HMO, TennCare, originally refused to fund the treatment because it was
experimental. However, in April a judge in Davidson County Chancery Court
overruled TennCare's position, acknowledging that while the treatment was
experimental, it was in Deason's case medically necessary. Just recently the
HMO decided not to appeal, so Deason's treatment can go ahead.
She just wishes the treatment could have been started two years ago, before
the NSF had progressed to the point it has today. That's when her fight with
her HMO reportedly started.
Since a link between gadolinium-based contrasting agents and the
appearance of NSF in kidney patients has been discovered, the US Food
and Drug Administration (FDA) mandated a black box warning for
gadolinium-based contrasting agents in association with the onset of NSF,
and has also warned that patients with kidney disease should avoid
gadolinium-based agents.
It has been reported previously that any patient in line for an MRI using
gadolinium-based agents should be screened for kidney malfunction first—
and as a last resort, should gadolinium be required, the kidney patient
should undergo dialysis immediately thereafter, to rid the body of the
gadolinium agent the kidneys cannot expel on their own.
Should these precautions not take place and a patient develops NSF, a call
to a legal professional would be in order.

The plan includes CT scans every two years to look for signs of lung cancer, but the
medical association argues the risk of causing cancer with repeated high doses of
radiation outweighs the potential benefits of routine screening.
"We tend to just accept X-rays and CTs and MRIs and PET scans as routine medical
care that has no potential adverse risk," said Evan Jenkins, the association's
executive director and a state senator representing Cabell County. "The public, we
think, needs to be better informed that these kinds of scans do have risks."
Jenkins said the association isn't trying to make a political statement, but does
routinely file friend-of-the-court briefs on emerging issues. It wants the Supreme
Court to think hard about medical monitoring plans.
